The world commemorates Tuberculosis (TB) Day on 24 March to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
This year, Malawi joined the commemoration on 26 March at Katoto Secondary School in Mzuzu City under the theme: “It’s Time for a World without TB- Know your TB status”! ActionAid Malawi participated in the national commemoration.
The commemoration started with a march followed by viewing of pavilions before formal speeches. ActionAid Malawi through its Joint TB/HIV Global Fund Programme was one of the seven organizations that mounted a pavilion together with its implementing partners; Episcopal Conference of Malawi and Catholic Health Commission. Community Sputum Collection Point (CSCP) Volunteers from Chikompulasi and Ekwendeni who were on the pavilion clarified how they reach out to TB presumptive including proper channel of collecting sputum to the point they deliver results to the presumptive. They also explained how they document all the required information for record keeping using different forms which they were taught during their training.
